I bought this for a reference, not something to read like a novel, so I haven't read through the entire book or even much of it. I have one other book on homeopathy that I've had for years, but 'The Complete Homeopathy Handbook' appears to be much more thorough and detailed.For more than four months, I had been dealing with a sinus infection that, no matter what I tried, never resolved. The day the book came, I looked up 'sinus' and found a description that exactly described my experience and symptoms. I was able to buy the suggested remedy locally, took the recommended doses over the next two days, and my symptoms were GONE. That one experience was worth at least 10 times what I paid for the book.
Very complete. Gives good background on homeopathy, prescribing guidelines, large materia medica and a good section on repertory of complaints. I recently ordered a Homeopathic First Aid Course from a School of Homeopathy out of the UK. This is one of the books they send with the course! So now I have two of them but that’s ok! Highly recommend.
I purchased this book, along with Homoeopathic Materia Medica & Repertory. Between these too books, my ability to progress in the use and applications of Homeopathic remedies for myself and my family will skyrocket.While this book does have 2 short sections of Materia Medica, I'm glad I bought the separate, expanded edition of a Materia Medica as there is more in depth treatment of the remedies.However, this book is also Super useful to the beginning, intermediate user of homeopathy as it gives some in depth history of the practice, principles, prescribing and follow-up and how to work up a case history (which is nothing more or less than how to take good notes on the person (even yourself!) that your wanting to help. That way, you know what's been done and you know how to document for future reference. And you can better fine-tune what you're doing.
I had trouble deciding between this book and Asa Hershoff's "Homeopathic Remedies" I ended up buying both and they are both good books on Homeopathy to have in your library. They each offer some basic information on Homeopathy as an introduction and each adds some information the other book does not contain.The beginning of this book discusses some good information on homeopathy to help understand what it is all about so you have a good understanding of it.After the introductory information, the book is laid out like a Materia Medica listing both External (cremes, ointments, etc.) and Internal remedies. There is also included some interesting information on where the remedy comes from and how it is made. The Materia Medica portion is fairly extensive although I still use my actual Materia Medica book for more information if needed. The Materia Medica portion is followed by a repertory guide of symptoms and modalities to help find the correct remedy. The book discusses how to prescribe and use dosage in giving a remedy including a small chart about dosage in the beginning of her book.. Castro's book provides a sample repertorising chart with some sample cases to help one learn how to take a case and find the correct remedy. This is very valuable in helping one chart out symptoms, complaints and modalities to help pin point the correct remedy.Overall, I really like the way this book is laid out. The Hershoff book is laid out by ailment and a list of six main remedies for each ailment with a small Materia Medica description to narrow the remedy selection down.
This is hands down the best resource out there for understanding and using homeopathy. I look at it almost every day as I'm learning more, and consult it anytime we need an acute remedy. It's easy to use, laid out nicely and has some beautiful illustrations. Not only will you learn how to use homeopathy, you'll learn some history behind how it was developed, information about proper dosing and find the confidence to use it with your own family. Even my 2nd grader is enjoying it and studying on his own for part of our homeschool Science curriculum. This is a MUST have, in my opinion. I have given away many copies to friends learning about Homeopathy and suggested it often.
Is this book great or what?! As I new to homeopathics mom of 2 I need this book, ALOT! it goes into history dosing taking a case internal materia medica and repetory I love love love this book. I ordered multiple others along with homeopathic kit and the others are useful but this book HAS IT ALL
